Big step up for Justin Walsh

Perpetual Investments’ former general manager of sales and service for Australian equities, Justin Walsh, will have eight people reporting to him in the newly-created role he begins on April 6.

Walsh has filled a newly-created role at State Street Global Advisors, overseeing the institutional business development and client service teams, which according to CEO Rob Goodlad have been "realigned" following a restructure.

After overseeing a client service team of four at Perpetual, Goodlad said there was "no question" Walsh was ready for the SSgA role, which covers the global manager’s entire suite of products.

Walsh finishes up at Perpetual at the end of March. In the meantime, Cathy Doyle, the COO of Australian equities and group executive for Perpetual Investments Business Services, is the point of contact for Perpetual’s Australian equity business. She said the process of replacing Walsh was continuing, and was by its nature a lengthy procedure because the successful candidate had to get on equally well with the client service and investment teams.

"There’s a lot of people [the candidates] need to meet," she said.

This means investors need to think harder about inflation and country composition in their portfolio.
