Mercer private equity veteran departs

A long-time Mercer Investment Consulting expert in private equity is departing on July 2, into semi-retirement at his Dee Why home.

Head of private equity, Bruce Gregor, is retiring after 12 years with the asset consultant but plans to keep in touch with the funds industry through his research in demographics trends, an interest which he has kept since his early beginnings as an actuary.

Gregor spent the first half of his 43-year career in the traditional field of overseeing funding, design and liabilities for defined-benefit funds. “Then, I saw the field was changing and by a conscious decision, I moved into the investment field in the second half of my career.”

As well as research, Gregor plans to speak at conferences, lecture at university, and “spend more time with my wife”.

Gregor’s replacement will not be a direct 1-for-1 replacement, he said, with his various job roles now spread over a number of specialists, reflecting the changes in Mercer’s evolving approach to asset class research.

This means investors need to think harder about inflation and country composition in their portfolio.
