Schroders builds FI team with new role

Schroders has bolstered its fixed income team with a new product specialist role and will continue to expand with the search for a credit analyst.

Kelly Wood, formerly of UBS Global Asset Management, has been appointed to the new role of fixed income product specialist, a role that sits between the funds management and sales roles. Chief executive of Schroders, Greg Cooper, said the structure allowed funds managers to exclusively focus on managing portfolios. The Australian fixed income product has been receiving good flows, he said, and this new role would facilitate the continued focus on the fund by the managers. The Schroders fixed income team now numbers five, and will continue to expand with the appointment of a credit analyst over time. Schroders has been on a recruitment drive recently, with the appointment of Andrew Fleming to the Australian equities team, and will continue to make appointments following a spate of departures in June. Cooper said the manager was also looking to appoint a new member to the Sydney-based quant team.

AustralianSuper’s call for leverage is bold but unnecessary

AustralianSuper's chief liquidity officer Chandu Bhindi has publicly proposed the idea of allowing some super funds to directly use leverage, enabling them to better manage liquidity requirements in crisis situations rather than being forced to sell assets at stressed prices. While the idea has some merits, overall it is not necessary and could increase system risk.
