Jean-Luc Ambrosi, the former head of marketing at BlackRock, will soon begin work at another funds management giant.

It is understood that Ambrosi will become Vanguard Investments’ new head of corporate marketing, covering the manager’s institutional and retail businesses, starting at month’s end. It is understood he will report to Vanguard’s head of retail, Robin Bowerman.

He will replace Colin Bold, who left Vanguard at the end of 2008 and resurfaced in May at PR shop endgame communications. Until now, the marketing role has been purposefully unfilled as Vanguard weathered the financial crisis.

Ambrosi lost his position at BlackRock in November 2008 during the wave of redundancies in the domestic financial services sector caused by the crisis.

In March 2009, he began a six month stint as a contractor with Members Equity Bank, in which he worked on the overhaul of the bank’s brand into ME Bank, and an advertising campaign promoting its deposit products on television and the internet.

Vanguard is currently without a permanent chief executive, following the resignation of Ian Alcock last month. Chairman Jeremy Duffield, the founder of the big indexer’s business in Australia, has stepped into the breach.
