The Future Fund Management Agency (FFMA) is still in the process of shortlisting candidates for the positions of general manager and chief investment officer and hopes to make an appointment in the next month or two.
“We’re currently in the process of appointing a general manager and CIO,” a spokesperson for the FFMA said. Applications have closed and the FFMA, with fund chair David Murray, is examining a “;very long list”;. “Expediting the process is very important to us,” the FFMA spokesperson said. David St. John, Unisuper chief investment officer, along with David Neal, Watson Wyatt have been rumoured to be in running for the two positions but have both repeatedly denied they have discussed any such appointment.
Hostplus chief investment officer Sam Sicilia has declared that for as long as he and chief executive David Elia are overseeing the $110 billion fund, there will be no investment internalisation. However, he acknowledges that if the institutional asset manager business model comes too much under pressure, it poses risks and instability to Hostplus’ externalisation model.
