Lachlan Maddock (L) and Darcy Song

Conexus Financial, publisher of Investment Magazine, has announced changes to its editorial team in line with the growing and global influence of Australia’s institutional asset owners.

Lachlan Maddock has joined the publication as senior journalist, reporting to editor Simon Hoyle and writing news and analysis of relevance to institutional investors across portfolio and organisational strategy, asset allocation, governance and regulation. Maddock was formerly editor of Investor Strategy News and a reporter at Momentum Media before that.

The appointment follows the relocation of journalist Darcy Song to Singapore, where she will serve in the newly created role of Asia-Pacific correspondent across Conexus Financial’s suite of publications, especially Investment Magazine and international title Top1000Funds.com. In this role, Song will write about Australia’s institutional asset owners for a global audience as well as covering the region for readers of the company’s Australian-based publications.

“I’m excited to join the Conexus Financial team to cover one of the biggest stories in the Australian financial landscape today: the rise and rise of the super funds,” Maddock said. “I’ve long admired publications like Investment Magazine, Professional Planner and Top1000Funds.com and look forward to contributing to the excellent reporting and analysis that’s defined Conexus’ coverage over its 20-year history.”

Conexus Financial editor-in-chief Aleks Vickovich said the changes were testament to the company’s commitment to the institutional market, as well as a sign of growing global interest in Australia’s unique retirement system.

“As superannuation industry leaders and lobbyists convene in Washington DC and New York to sell the Australian story, clearly there is appetite from global peers to better understand the nuances of our compulsory default defined contributions system, as well as our increasingly influential investment organisations and individual leaders,” Vickovich said.

He said the new editorial line-up would further cement the market-leading position of Conexus publications and ability to cover the rapidly expanding and changing  investment industry.

“We are thrilled to welcome a journalist of Lachie’s calibre to our team,” Vickovich said. “His coverage of the institutional market has become mandatory reading for industry leaders and I look forward to reading and editing his consistently high-quality and impactful journalism.”

On a personal note, Vickovich said it was fitting that Maddock — a mentee of the late, great journalist and publisher Greg Bright — should join the team at Conexus Financial, which Bright himself was a co-founder of.

“The brief will be yarns that Greg would have liked.”
