ClearView Retirement Solutions has become one of the first financial services converts to podcasting, launching a series of downloadable talks to help explain the ‘Simpler Super’ changes.

With the changes being the biggest story in the financial industry, podcasting was seen as an effective way of cutting through the deluge of written material, marketing manager at ClearView, Richard Dunkerley, said. Dunkerley said that ClearView’s podcasts were the first he was aware of which attempted to explain superannuation to a mass audience. He said Mercer Wealth Solutions had also launched a podcast series but that this did not appear until a couple of weeks after the April 26 launch of the Clearview series. Marketed toward retirees and pre-retirees, Dunkerley said research indicated baby boomers were savvy internet users, and since the launch of the podcasts there have been more than 3,000 downloads of the eight-minute audio files. “For many, listening is a far easier way to absorb information than reading through lengthy and complicated materials,” ClearView technical manager, Helena Gibson, said. “These podcasts offer Australians another way to learn more about their retirement options and take immediate action.” Prominently placed on ClearView’s website, the first podcast introduces the changes, while a further three relate to how the changes affect specific audiences. Dunkerley said that they contained enough information for people to decide whether they needed to seek further help or continue what they were doing. A more convenient and cost effective way of providing frequently updated information, Dunkerley said podcasts were a medium the company would definitely be using again in the future.
