The AIST is holding its first superannuation fund governance conference at the Melbourne Sofitel Hotel on May 6, which is designed to help trustees and executives to review the governance of their funds.
Typically, most governance conferences to date – and sessions at the major industry association conferences – have involved funds looking to better govern their investments rather than the oversight of their own organisational structures. Next week’s conference, held in conjunction with the Melbourne Centre for Financial Studies, includes as speakers: Keith Ambachstsheer, of the University of Toronto (via satellite link), Ross Jones, deputy chair of APRA, Professor Michael Skully, of Monash University, and Leo de Bever, CIO of VFMC. It will be followed by a dinner with Senator Nick Sherry, Minister for Superannuation and Corporate Law. Information and bookings: www.aist.asn.au
The biggest risk many super fund members face is not investment volatility but rather not accumulating enough to live on in retirement. Australian Retirement Trust head of investment strategy Andrew Fisher takes Investment Magazine behind the scenes of a migration that saw 1.4 million members moved to a higher-risk, higher-return investment strategy, designed to help them accumulate more at retirement.
