David is also responsible for the product strategy management for the DST Global Solutions Advanced User Group (AUG). The AUG is a collaboration for the ongoing investment in development of DST Global Solutions’ business offerings. It has facilitated software enhancements to meet a range of industry requirements including Y2K, unit pricing, risk minimisation and now the Taxation of Financial Arrangements (TOFA).
With over 20 years’ experience in the investment management industry, David has held a variety of operational and Information Technology roles with fund managers, investment administrators, accounting application vendors within the United Kingdom, the Middle East and Australia. These organisations include Royal Bank of Canada, Aberdeen Asset Management, BNP Paribas Security Services, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and DST Global Solutions.
For the past two years David has been spearheading the TOFA Project in its collaboration with key Australian custodians, fund managers and strategic taxation associates to build on HiPortfolio’s existing comprehensive taxation capabilities and provide a platform for accurate and efficient taxation administration within the TOFA Act.

Graham Sammells is the chief executive officer, for The IQ Business Group in Australia. The IQ Business Group (IQ) is a global consulting and business solutions company. IQ delivers services across banking, financial services, telco, healthcare and government sectors. In Australia, IQ has deep industry experience in superannuation, and is a leading provider of systems selection, systems integration, data migration, process efficiency and related consulting and implementation services. IQ’s clients include financial institutions, superannuation funds, third party administrators and banks.
In addition to being an executive on the board of directors, Graham is responsible for all aspects of IQ Australia’s operations. Graham has a strong blend of business and IT delivery experience in the superannuation industry, as well as broader financial services – with particular emphasis on large scale data migrations, business intelligence and data warehousing.And, like many in the superannuation industry, Graham’s super experience started from his early years at the old National Mutual, now AXA. Graham holds an economics degree and a graduate diploma in applied finance and investment.

The scale of superannuation funds and their allocation to growth assets – particularly US equities – illustrates a systemic risk that could arise if the US market were to decline significantly. The Fiduciary Investors Symposium heard that the probability of zero or lower real returns for a decade or more isn’t trivial, and that a decline, if it comes, is less likely to be a short, sharp shock than a slow grind downwards.
