Alternative execution platform Chi-X Australia has announced that inaugural Australian chief executive, Peter Fowler, will step down in early 2013. He will, however, continue in his role as a director on the board of Chi-X Australia.

Chi-X Global is currently undertaking a global search and evaluation process for a successor, who is expected to be in place before Fowler’s departure. Fowler guided Chi-X through its licence application process and the first year of trading

Franklin Templeton Investments has appointed Matthew Hattersley as northern region key account manager for its local retail business.

Based in Sydney, Hattersley will have responsibility for national key accounts and dealer group relationships in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland.

This is the sixth new hire Franklin Templeton has made this year as part of the build out of its advisory services team, dedicated to servicing the Australian retail and family office market.

Zaf Kardaras has joined Northern Trust as tax manager for Australia and New Zealand, supporting financial and tax reporting for clients in the funds management and superannuation industries.

Kardaras is the lead tax specialist in a fund administration team with 60 professionals working for clients in fund accounting, unit pricing, financial reporting and tax. As a senior member of the client delivery team, Kardaras will also represent Northern Trust in industry tax forums.

Graeme Miller of Towers Watson is the new chair of the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA Australia) following the announcement that Lorraine Berends will stand down after six years in the role. Miller is currently director of investment services at Towers Watson. IMCA has also awarded life membership to Ray King and Tony Cole, who it says were instrumental in the formation of the organisation in 2000.
