Citibank has appointed former Australian senator and minister for superannuation, Nick Sherry, to its securities and fund services, part of the Citi transaction services division. Sherry will be based in Australia and will have a regional role supporting Citi’s pension fund clients in the Asia Pacific region.

Sherry was previously chair of the senate committee on superannuation, minister for superannuation and Australia’s first minister for superannuation and corporate law.

Elio Garino general manager of retail at MLC Insurance

MLC has appointed Elio Garino to general manager of retail insurance operations. He is responsible for driving service and operational excellence across the new business and underwriting, in-force administration and insurance capability teams at MLC Insurance.

Garino has more than 20 years’ experience in financial services and has most recently been working in the National Australia Bank retail bank. Prior to joining NAB, he was general manager of financial protection operations at AXA with overall responsibility for the service and operations areas of the company’s life insurance business.

 Major moves at NAB

Christine Bartlett has been appointed executive general manager of asset servicing at National Australia Bank’s wholesale banking business. In a statement, NAB said that Leigh Watson, who previously held the role, will be taking on a new role as global head of the financial institutions group, with London and New York offices reporting to him.

Also at NAB, Adam Bennett has been appointed executive general manager of enterprise transformation within group business services. He has been chief information officer for the last three years. In his new role, Bennet will be accountable for driving NAB’s transformation agenda, including the NextGen program, enterprise architecture and enterprise project services.

Denis McGee has been appointed NAB’s chief technology officer for group business services. He will be responsible for the operation of technology services including applications, mainframe and server infrastructure, data centres, the core network and IT security. Denis was most recently general manager of application development and testing.

 Ratner at eVestment and Renny at Swiss Re Life & Health Australia

eVestment, a global provider of institutional investment data intelligence and analytic solutions, has named Adam Ratner as senior vice president of business development for Australia and New Zealand. Ratner is charged with expanding market presence with institutional investors and asset managers in the region.

Michael Renny will join Swiss Re Life & Health Australia as vice president, head of underwriting. Most recently, he was executive underwriting manager for group risk underwriting at TAL. Prior to this, he was technical risk consultant for underwriting and claims at RGA. Renny has more than 15 years’ experience in the life insurance industry across retail, group and direct lines of business.
