Aon promotes Janice Sengupta and Jennifer Dean

Actuary Jennifer Dean will head the $3 billion Aon Master Trust, following the promotion of Janice Sengupta to Aon Investment Solutions Asia-Pacific chief investment officer.

Sengupta headed the Aon Master Trust – a retail superannuation fund with roughly $3 billion in funds under management – for less than two years, but has held various senior roles with local divisions of global giant Aon for more than a decade.

Aon is a $40 billion company dual listed on the New York and London stock exchanges. The group’s three main areas of business globally are insurance, re-insurance brokerage and human resources consulting.

The group’s superannuation and wealth-management businesses sit under the banner of its human resources consulting division, Aon Hewitt.

Sengupta joined Aon Hewitt as its chief investment officer for the Asia-Pacific region in July 2006. Since 2012, she has sat on Aon Hewitt Australia’s board of trustees. She was appointed head of the Aon Master Trust in July 2015.

In her new role, Sengupta will report to Aon Hewitt chief executive, Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa, Stewart Fotheringham.

Sengupta will remain a director of Aon Superannuation, which is the trustee for Aon Master Trust.

Dean, Aon Hewitt Australia principal and actuary, will report to Aon Hewitt Asia Pacific chief executive Steve Gaffney in her new role as head of the master trust.

“We are excited to have Jennifer take on this new role, especially as we go through the next stage of evolution, focused on re-framing our offering to ensure critical market and client relevance,” Gaffney said.

Dean’s responsibilities will include overseeing the operations and growth strategy of the super fund, as well as member experience, investments, insurance, governance and regulatory compliance.

Dean was appointed to Aon Hewitt Australia’s board of trustees in 2012. She formerly led the internal office of the trustee and was responsible for the governance, risk management, operations and compliance of the board and all its sub-committees.

She is a member of the Aon Hewitt Pacific operating committee and sits on the Aon Hewitt Asia Pacific retirement and investment practice council, responsible for improving retirement governance and developing retirement solutions.

Unlike her predecessor, Dean will not have a dual investment chief title. The master trust is able to draw on the investment expertise in other areas of the Aon group, including Sengupta’s in her new role.
