The winner of the 2018 Michael O’Sullivan ESG Rising Star Award is Komal Jalan of the New South Wales Treasury Corporation (TCorp).

Jalan was presented with the award at the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors Annual Conference, held at the Westin in Sydney this month. She is a senior analyst of investment stewardship with TCorp, where she played a key role in designing, developing and implementing environmental, social and governance considerations and stewardship functions.

CareSuper director Cate Wood said, “Komal impressed the judging panel with her commitment to managing ESG considerations across asset classes and sharing the importance of ESG integration with a wider audience.”

ACSI president Ian Silk said, “I have no doubt Komal will be a force in ESG integration for many years to come, helping to deliver long-term value to beneficiaries.”

Michael O’Sullivan was the founding president of ACSI and a former chair and deputy chair of CareSuper. The award bearing his name is given every two years. It is open to professionals aged 40 and younger working at one of the 32 Australian superannuation funds that are members of ACSI. Its purpose is to develop the next generation of ESG advocates and professionals within the profit-to-member superannuation sector.

As the winner, Jalan will receive funding from CareSuper to attend the International Corporate Governance Network Annual Conference in Milan in June.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the global ESG agenda and will apply this knowledge to the development of best-practice stewardship at TCorp,” Jalan said.
