Mercer head of Aussie shares research leaves for HSBC

Nerida Law, the head of Australian equities research for Mercer Investment Consulting, is leaving the firm to go to HSBC Asset Management’s Hong Kong-based multi-manager business.

Marianne Feeley, Mercer’s head of research in Australia, said the firm would add another member to its research team as a result of Law’s departure, scheduled for the end of the month. Mercer structures its research into sector teams, including a two-person Australian equities team. Law has been with Mercer, in the Sydney office, for about 15 months. Mercer’s research is integrated globally, under expatriate Australian, Bill Muysken, who is based in London. Tim Gardener, the firm’s global head of investment consulting, announced last month an upgrade of resources, in particular strengthening research on alternatives. As well as advising super funds in Australia and its own master trust operation, Mercer clients also include multi-managers such as AMP Future Directions, Skandia and Colonial’s First Choice.
