Watson Wyatt has been selected as the asset consultant for the Future Fund, with the contract being signed today.
Future Fund general manager, Paul Costello, said: “In conjunction with internal staff, Watson Wyatt will provide the board with advice on a range of issues including establishing an investment mission and philosophy, the development of the strategic asset allocation for the fund, and setting the transition strategy for entry into financial markets”. Watson Wyatt has already advised the Commonwealth Treasury on investment strategy for the Future Fund.
Future Fund chief investment officer Ben Samild said that FY24 has been a great year for alpha creation, thanks to strong returns in equities and, unusually, across multiple hedge fund strategies all at the same time. He reflected the past few years have been “a difficult time to be an asset owner and to generate positive returns for risk assets” but the Future Fund is tracking well of its long-term mandate.
