ING Australia’s chief operating officer and former Cogent/BNP Paribas custody chief, Alexis George, has been posted to the Czech & Slovak Republics.
George will from next February assume a Prague-based role running ING’s life insurance, pension, annuities and mutual fund businesses for the Eastern European region. Having family in Europe, George said she had sought out such a role, and intended to stay in it for at least two to three years. George has only been chief operating officer for a couple of months. Next year she will be replaced by Fred Bertram, an ANZ technology executive who will run a newly-created ‘customer solutions’ business, combining ING’s IT, operations, e-business and customer service functions. George’s previous role as head of personal investments for ING Australia has been filled by David Kan, previously the product manager in that division.
AustralianSuper’s appointment of a general manager, retirement to replace Shawn Blackmore, which follows ART's redeployment of Kathy Vincent to chief operating officer, shows that mega funds are back-pedalling on the strategy of having dedicated retirement C-suite executives. The role had been touted as the next big thing in super funds' organisational structures, but experts say what matters is there is senior accountability for decumulation.
