Jack Gray, head of strategy at Grantham Mayo van Otterloo (GMO), has resigned from the firm.
Gray, who had been commuting between Sydney and the GMO head office in Boston for the last 12 months, said he was speaking to several firms about possible roles in strategy and asset allocation. Gray first worked with GMO in early 1999. He intended to spend some time working with the Paul Woolley Centre, which is linked to the University of Technology Sydney in a research project on the dysfunctionality of capital markets. Professor Ron Bird, another former GMO funds manager, is running the Australian arm of the international research project. Gray is a prominent academic-turned-manager who, prior to his most recent role was chief investment officer at Sunsuper. He said that the long-distance commute between Sydney and Boston was one of the reasons for his decision to look for another position.
