Boutique incubator Pinnacle Investment Management has recruited the director of retail sales from Schroder Investment Management to its Sydney office.
Adrian Whittingham began work at Pinnacle earlier this month as a director of distribution and client relationships, representing four boutiques part-owned by the incubator: Resolution Capital, a listed property trust manager; Solaris Investment Management and Plato Investment Management, both Australian equities shops; and infrastructure manager Palisade Investment Partners. The appointment follows the hiring of former Legg Mason distribution agent Andrew Chambers last month, who works on behalf of the same four boutiques in Melbourne. Ian Macoun, the managing director of Pinnacle, said Whittingham’s experience in both institutional and retail businesses were helpful. Before his six-year tenure at Schroders, Whittingham worked as a business development manager and research analyst at Zurich. Prior to this, he was with AMP. Schroders refused to comment about its procedure for replacing Whittingham.
The role of IFM Investors in arranging a visit by a delegation of Australian super funds to the US last month gives a pointer to the scale of the longer-term ambitions of the global super-fund-owned asset manager, and a recent investment in the manager by the UK pension fund NEST is designed to give it even greater clout. IFM chair Cath Bowtell tells Investment Magazine the manager aims to be a partner to governments around the world as they seek capital to build critical infrastructure.
