Feal scholarship won by CEO newcomer

The Fund Executive Association Limited (FEAL) has announced the winner of its inaugural Wharton School of Business scholarship.

Non Government Schools Superannuation Fund chief executive officer, Anthony Rodwell-Ball, will attend the week-long Investment Strategies and Portfolio Management program at the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia in December, courtesy of FEAL and KPMG.

Appointed to the role of CEO in only June this year, Rodwell-Ball had a keen desire to “up skill his knowledge of investments,” and had shown particular effort in his application to further studies, the CEO of FEAL, Michael Baldwin, said. It was felt that from the large number applicants, Rodwell-Ball stood the most to gain from the Wharton Scholarship.

Before joining NGS Super, Rodwell-Ball was the chief finance officer, and for a period the acting CEO, at Emergency Services and State Super. Prior to that he was the general manager, finance and risk, at Australian Super.

Rodwell-Ball said the scholarship was an unexpected surprise. “This opportunity will give me an insight to current academic thinking as well as the chance to network with industry participants who face the same issues as Australian investors,” he said. “I’ll use the time at Wharton to develop deeper knowledge and gain better tools to make better decisions for the organisation and ultimately our members.”

Rest Super’s selective approach to PE pays off as program comes of age

Rest Super has built its private equity program around a deliberately selective approach to manager and deal selection, favouring a concentrated roster of external partners and proactively seeking out top PE firms rather than waiting for them to come knocking. Head of private markets Marina Pasika unpacks the program’s coming of age and what powered an asset class return more than double the peer average in the last financial year.
