Eze Castle has signed another Australian boutique with an offshore investment strategy to its order management system (OMS).

Eight Investment Partners (8IP), the Asian equities boutique founded by CIO Kerry Series, has become the seventh domestic manager to install the Eze OMS, joining the ranks of Paradice Investment Management, which uses the OMS for its global small-caps capability, and Caledonia Investments.

Rick Steele, CEO of the Sanlam-backed 8IP, said the Eze OMS was chosen primarily for its connectivity with brokers and custodians, and its facilitation of pre- and post-trade compliance across multiple portfolios.

“We plan to have a number of portfolios that are slightly different, and have different restrictions,” Steele said.

As the boutique moved on from a “very sophisticated” use of internal spreadsheets to the new OMS, Steele added that it was enlisting post-trade, pre-settlement matching solutions from Omgeo.

8IP has also recently hired Christina Yap from the multi-manager Optimix as an industrials analyst, and brought Anshu Sharma in-house from a Sanlam analyst team to focus on technology, media and communications stocks.

Sharma was part of Sanlam Equity Analytics, a Bangalore-based team whose remit includes providing thematic research to 8IP. He and Steele previously worked at TechInvest, a market-neutral hedge fund based in Sydney, which closed its doors last year.
