The Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) has launched an annual ‘Awards for Excellence’ program to recognise the contribution made by fund staff to the super industry.
The AIST Awards will incorporate AIST’s Communications Awards – previously announced at CMSF conferences – plus new awards in compliance, investment, operation, marketing and business development. The 10 Award categories – open to fund staff of any AIST-registered fund – are outlined in more detail on AIST’s new Awards’ website: www.aistawards.asn.au. AIST CE0, Fiona Reynolds, said the AIST Awards would for the first time publicly recognise the professionalism of the estimated 1500 plus fund staff around Australia. The winners of the Individual Awards will each receive a scholarship to the value of $5000 (from the Industry Partner supporting that specific Award) to be used for professional development opportunities. The winner of the Team Award will receive a scholarship to the value of $5000 to be used for team building activities and the winners of the Communications Award will be presented with individual plaques commemorating their achievements. Entry and nominations close on 31/10/08. The winners of the awards will be announced at a Gala Award Dinner on December 4 in Melbourne.
The role of IFM Investors in arranging a visit by a delegation of Australian super funds to the US last month gives a pointer to the scale of the longer-term ambitions of the global super-fund-owned asset manager, and a recent investment in the manager by the UK pension fund NEST is designed to give it even greater clout. IFM chair Cath Bowtell tells Investment Magazine the manager aims to be a partner to governments around the world as they seek capital to build critical infrastructure.
