Platypus hires academics to study Australian corporate governance

Platypus Asset Management, which has garnered 12 per cent annual net returns since its inception 13 years ago, has commissioned a study by academics to analyse corporate governance and the value premium.

“Do companies with better corporate governance perform better in terms of their stock price? Asks Peter Brooke, a Platypus portfolio manager with a PhD in physics. “Parts of the  study will also look at when the value premium works and when it doesn’t.”

The findings by five Australian academics from Monash, Melbourne and Newcastle universities will be published in journals.

“We want to get a dialogue going with other experts,” says Brooke.
