Russell replaces investment solutions chief

Celebrations at Russell Investments, which last week prised consultancy for the $850m Amcor super fund from the hands of Simon Ibbetson, were tempered somewhat by the need to replace the head of investment solutions, who departed for a senior role running BT Investment Management’s balanced funds.

Martyn Wild, who leaves Russell at the end of July, will report to BTIM’s head of macro strategies, Joe Bracken, in a newly created role as a senior portfolio manager for what the shop calls its ‘diversified’ funds. Wild had spent four years at Russell, the last two running investment solutions, advising clients on investment objectives, strategy, asset allocation, investment structure and manager selection.

Russell has replaced Wild with a 10-year veteran of its business, Karolina Bowler, who is an actuary.

Russell’s investment consulting team, lead by former QIC implemented chief Greg Liddell, last week won a contract to advise the $850 million corporate fund of packaging giant, Amcor. Until now, the fund’s asset consulting arrangements had resided with whomever Simon Ibbetson happened to be working for – he had taken the fund with him to several employers since the 1990s,  including Aon Consulting, JANA, and most recently CPG Advisory, which was recently taken over by the Kinghorn family.

Rest Super’s selective approach to PE pays off as program comes of age

Rest Super has built its private equity program around a deliberately selective approach to manager and deal selection, favouring a concentrated roster of external partners and proactively seeking out top PE firms rather than waiting for them to come knocking. Head of private markets Marina Pasika unpacks the program’s coming of age and what powered an asset class return more than double the peer average in the last financial year.
